Reliance Globalcom is a division of Reliance Communications, an Indian integrated telecommunications service provider. Reliance Globalcom provides global managed network solutions and services, and has network management capability in partnership with carrier partners. The company also offers a portfolio of retail products and services consisting of global voice, internet solutions and value added services with 2.5 million retail customers in 163 countries on six continents.

Reliance Globalcom owns an undersea cable system spanning 65,000 kilometres which is integrated with Reliance Communications' domestic optic fiber which runs over to 190,000 kilometres. Reliance Globalcom's global VPLS enabled Ethernet network capability serves India, the United States, Europe, Middle East, and the Asia Pacific region.

History

Flag acquisition

Flag Telecom started in 1990 as a provider of international wholesale network transport and communication services, with 50,000 km of undersea cables. In 2001 Flag filed for bankruptcy under chapter 11. In 2002 it emerged from bankruptcy. In January 2004 Reliance Infocom (now renamed Reliance Communications) acquired Flag Telecom for a valuation of US$211 million for a control of 100% equity of the company. After the merger Flag was renamed Reliance Globalcom.[1]

Vanco acquisition

Established in 1988, Vanco was a global Virtual Network Operator. The acquisition of Vanco in May 2008 added $365 million (Rs. 1,550 crore) to the annual revenue of Reliance Globalcom, and increased Reliance Globalcom's tally of enterprise customers to over 1,400. Vanco's customer base included AVIS, British Airways, Siemens, Virgin Megastores. Through this acquisition, Reliance Globalcom added nine Network Management Centers to its global service systems and processes.

Yipes acquisition

In December 2007 Reliance Communications Ltd. received approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the merger of U.S. based Yipes Holdings, Inc. Reliance Communications announced the U.S. $300 million acquisition of Yipes in July 2007.

Reliance Communications

Reliance Communications Limited founded by Dhirubhai Ambani (1932–2002) is the flagship company of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group currently has a net worth in excess of Rs. 64,000 crore (US$ 13.6 billion), cash flows of Rs. 13,000 crore (US$ 2.8 billion), net profit of Rs. 8,400 crore (US$ 1.8 billion).[2]
